From the Management Important Reminders----
Dear Roslyn,
We are looking forward to the pool opening on May 23rd.
While it is extremely important that each family reviews and understands the content of the reminders and rules, it’s not the documents which ensure a sanitary and safe environment. Sanitary and safe conditions always revert to the collective efforts of the staff and membership as we progress throughout the season.
These are some of the annual reminders and updates pertaining to the upcoming season.
POOLS
1. Please supervise your children when they are in the water. Lifeguards are
responsible for the masses and need to oversee the entire pool. We have been
fortunate throughout the years that there have been no serious, life-threatening,
situations involving drownings. However, last season lifeguards were required to make some rescues, particularly early in the season. Our observation has been that often what the young and inexperienced swimmer says they can do is drastically different from what they can do while in the water.
2. When the season begins swimmers may become distressed because they are not accustomed to being in the water. Please observe your child when they are swimming and if necessary, remove your child from the water when they appear tired. If a swimmer appears distressed a staff member may also have them removed from the water.
3. Water temperatures will vary, especially at the beginning of the season. When water temperatures are cooler swimmers may become distressed sooner.
4. There are some unsafe activities which can occur between children in the pool. One such activity is breath-holding while underwater (this can happen in either shallow or deep water). Children may contest one another by seeing how long they can hold their breath and the concern with this is the occurrence of blacking out or even cardiac arrest.
Please discuss this major safety issue with your children and discourage this activity!
Statements such as “take breaths as much as possible when playing in the pool” may be another way to discourage breath-holding activities without giving children the idea the “game” exists.
5. A child wearing floatation device are not a license to take eyes off a child. A child using floatation devices while in the big pool must be supervised by parents or adult and remain in the shallow area of the pool. ***There can’t be any exceptions to this. Our recommendation for floatation aids for younger children is to use a USCG vest rather than swimmies. A vest is much more secure and should the swimmer raise their arms while using swimmies, they can easily come off causing the swimmer to go underwater. Any individual requiring a floatation device of any kind will not be permitted in the deep end area or be permitted to use the
slide.
6. RWI’s (Recreational Water Incidences) occur when fecal matter and vomit enter the water. For the safety of the membership please do everything possible to prevent this from happening. If sickness, diarrhea, or nausea occurs, do not swim!
If you happen to notice something unsafe (fecal matter or vomit) notify a staff member immediately as there is protocol which will be followed to ensure the water and pool grounds are safe. Children who are not trained must wear tight rubber pants when swimming.
7. Some of the obvious rules, such as not running on the pool deck and not diving in areas except the diving well will be enforced from the beginning.
8. Please keep food and drink away from the pools. Food and drink cannot be consumed while in the water or while sitting on the edge of the pool. This is both a safety and cleanliness issue.
9. NEVER BRING GLASS TO THE POOL.
GROUNDS AND FACILITIES
1. Use picnic tables and benches provided for snacking, lunch, or dinner. Food and drink be consumed in the grass areas or pavilion. Please do not eat on the pool deck.
As always, beverages are BYO? However, the Board of Directors and Staff are responsible use of adult beverages. Be smart.
2. Pool cleanliness and safety are of paramount importance to the staff. Please help us on both accounts by remembering to take your items home, discarding trash in receptacles, and reporting any unsafe acts you hear of or witness.
3. Pool safety also centers on ensuring proper use of the bathroom facilities and that young children are supervised when using the bathroom. Don’t assume everything will be okay when sending children to the bathroom- please check on them!
4. Please make sure to check into the pool upon entering and disclose any guests. When arriving the pool staff will ask for the number of people in each family and if there are any guests. Substituting a guest for a family member who is not currently signing into the pool is not permitted.
5. To say the least, navigating the parking lot is challenging at times at Roslyn. There will again be times when the upper part of the parking lot is closed. This will be based on weather and the condition of the parking lot area. Please remember and attempt to abide by the following as this will be a help for all members:
a. Park as close as possible to the car next to you in the safest way possible.
b. Carpool if possible.
c. Try to have each family drive one car to the pool.
d. Drive slowly in the parking lot!
6. Any requests for birthday parties, etc must go through the management. Please e-mail Kristin Niederman and Heather Godfrey about any birthday party or social event: Roslynmembership@gmail.com. Understand it is our intent to help find a suitable time and means to help with such a request but at the same time being mindful of the rest of the membership and other planned activities. It is important for all members to read over the information about pool parties in the pool rules.
Please follow up with any questions when at the pool.
Thank you for being a part of the Roslyn.
We hope you all have an enjoyable summer.
Opening weekend hours are from 12:00-6:00.
Sincerely,
Roslyn Management and Board of Directors
POOL POLICIES
Lifeguards are authorized by the Board of Directors to maintain safe operations of the facilities, and to deny pool privileges as necessary to maintain discipline. In the event of a dispute, the judgment of the lifeguard will prevail, pending review by the pool managers and Board of Directors.
1. Use of the wading pool is limited to young, non-swimming children. All children in the wading pool MUST be supervised at all times.
2. Do not dive in restricted diving areas. Feet first entry in all pool areas except for the deep end area. Pool depth and no diving areas are clearly marked around the perimeter of the pool.
3. All people using the deep end area must be able to swim to the ladder or clear the deep end area unassisted.
4. The deep end area must be entered by the slide only, except when the deep end area is closed by a pool staff member. Only one person is permitted to use the slide at a time.
5. Do not use the slide until the previous individual has cleared the area below and reached the deep end area ladder.
6. The cut-out steps in the shallow end of the pool are for entry and exit of the pool only. The steps should not serve as a play area.
7. Lifeguards will declare a periodic adult swim, limited to a maximum of fifteen minutes per hour.
8. Swimmers entering the pool must be clean. Shower facilities are provided for the convenience of the membership.
9. Activities that interfere with the use of the pool by others are not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, the throwing of objects, excessive splashing, and floatation devices.
10. Large floatation devices shall not be permitted in the large pool when it is crowded. This decision shall be entirely at the discretion of the pool staff.
11. Non-swimming children requiring the aid of floatation devices shall not be permitted in the large pool UNLESS SUPERVISED BY AN ADULT.
12. Use of the pool is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty.
Safety Rules
1. Lifeguards may “bench” or evict anyone from the pool when, in the opinion of the guards, they are annoying others or are endangering themselves or others. The first benching may be for up to thirty minutes. The second benching may result in eviction from the club for the day.
2. Repeat offenders and their families will receive a warning that the suspension of membership privileges will follow if the situation is not remedied.
3. There will be no swimming during inclement weather or when there is the threat of a storm. The lifeguard will declare that there is threat of a storm if thunder, lightning, or high winds are observed. Activities may not resume until the guard so designates.
4. Pool personnel will reserve the right to ask members to vacate the pool property or wait in their vehicles if there is threat of inclement weather.
5. All members, except for personnel and board members, are expected to stay outside the pumphouse area for safety reasons.
6. All injuries, no matter how minor, suffered anywhere on club property, must be reported immediately to a lifeguard on duty.
7. Staff and the Board of Directors will not be responsible for children entering the stream and woods surrounding the pool area. Please discuss with your children the risks associated with entering those areas and supervise accordingly. It is also recommended that young children be supervised on the basketball court in the parking lot area.
Facilities Rules
1. Every family member must sign in using Member Splash at the front gate. Guests of a family member must also sign in with their host at the front gate using Member Splash.
2. Host members must remain with their guests the entire time the guest is in attendance. At no time should a member leave the premises without their guest.
3. The guest fee is $10.00 per day, per guest. If a member purchased guest credits through member splash, these credits will be used first. If no guest credits were purchased, members may pay for guests with cash or have their membership account invoiced for the fees. Pre-purchased guest credits do not roll over from year to year. Children under the age of one and non-swimming grandparents will not be charged a guest fee.
4. The Board of Directors and Management reserve the right to limit the number of pool parties, the number of guests, and the time of day they occur. The fee for pool parties will be determined by the number of guests invited and the staffing needs of the pool based on the number of guests. Any member wishing to host a party should contact the Pool Managers at least one week in advance. Note regarding pool parties / planned events:
A) The staff may cancel or postpone any pool party due to inclement weather even if the pool party is in session.
B) The pavilion is only to be used for a short period of time during inclement weather to aid in gathering belongings prior to vacating the pool premises. The pavilion will not serve as a safety shelter during storms.
C) The pool property may not be rented for private social events.
D) The pavilion is a common space for all members and may not be completely occupied by a single gathering or event.
E) Before bringing guests to the pool, it is advised the weather forecast is reviewed.
5. Members and their guests are responsible for picking up their trash and litter. Please use the trash cans provided.
6. All young children must be supervised by an adult when using the bathroom facilities.
7. Children who are not toilet trained must wear tight rubber pants (swim diapers) in the water. Staff will reserve the right to refuse entry into the pool of a child who is not toilet trained. Children who are not toilet trained may not enter the big pool.
8. Non-swimmers under the age of twelve and all children under the age of nine must always be accompanied at the club by a responsible person of at least fourteen years of age. The liability coverage of the pool is not designed to provide coverage as a day care center.
9. Food and beverages are permitted in the picnic area, grassy areas, and pavilion. Food and beverages must be consumed off the pool deck.
10. For the safety of all members, no glass bottles or glassware is permitted on pool property.
11. Use of alcoholic beverages is not permitted during swim meets or other scheduled youth activities. Pool management or a member of the Board of Directors may restrict use of alcoholic beverages by a member or guest if they are engaging in unsafe actions or if their actions are deemed a nuisance to others.
Alcoholic beverages may not be sold or stored on swim club property.
Cautions-Reminders
1. Adult members are responsible for making their children and their guests familiar with the club rules and the risks involved with breaking them.
2. The club is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property. Members are reminded to close and lock their vehicles.
Please continue to help keep the club safe, clean, and enjoyable for all.
